Quantity

A view of the River Cuckmere and it's old meanders from the site of the lost village of Exceat. A thriving fishing village and it is believed that King Alfred the Great had a naval base here during his war with the Danish. Abandoned after the Black Death, little remains other than a stone placed to mark the spot.

The engraving accompanies a poem written in celebration of this magical place:

"We are drawn from near and far / this enchanted fold / A place of dragon coils and rolling Down / where old Albion is sheared by the restless sea.

Wood engraving printed onto Zerkall mould made paper.

Part of an edition numbering 125, the print measures 120mm x 85mm.
