The winter sun skims an ancient oak pollard. The tree that has held sway in Petworth Park for a thousand years orbiting the sun, that gives us those days months and years that the oak has seen, casting its shadow as the sun arced around, tracing time. Amazing to think that even when Capability Brown came to work his vision on the Park the tree would've been note worthy for its age, the tree is close to the ha-ha he introduced. And then later, during Turner's repeated working visits to the House, I wonder if he was drawn to the tree whilst he explored the Park?

And the observant among you will spot the title is taken from a song by the Sussex singers the Copper Family.
